A sleuth is not somebody who knows. A sleuth is somebody who carefully screens what they are looking at ~ carefully, patiently, and notices the thing everybody walked past.
In this work, the thing everybody walks past is the words.
People tell you far more than they mean to through the words they choose in the fractions of a second before they have time to choose better. The pronoun they drop. The word they change halfway through speaking. The minutes they skip over. The denial they offer before anybody has accused them.
Learning to spot these and more is a real discipline with real rules. And it starts with one colour...

A medical student can name every symptom of a heart attack by the end of first year. Jaw pain, nausea, breathlessness, pain down the left arm. All correct and learnable in a fortnight. Put a real patient in front of them with eleven symptoms and ask which three matter. That isn't a knowledge problem, it's a judgement problem ~ and judgement is the one thing that can't be delivered in a lecture. It has to be built, case by case, with someone experienced telling you where you went wrong. Which is exactly why medicine has a residency and not just an exam.
